    Obituary for Bruce Allen Birnie

    Mr. Bruce A. Birnie, 83, of Sarasota, FL (formerly Danvers, Massaschusetts) Husband of the late Patricia A. Birnie and Dorothy I. (Reddy) Birnie, passed away Saturday July 16th surrounded by his family at Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, FL.

    Born in Massachusetts, Bruce was the son of Virginia (Farmer), (Birnie), Kisiel and William H. Birnie. Bruce was raised and educated in Maine and Massachusetts and was a graduate of Holten High School class of '51. He then went onto Northeastern University to obtain his engineering degree, graduating class of '56.

    Bruce worked as a Principal Engineer in the Electro-Optics division at EG&G in Salem, MA until he retired in 1996 after 34 years of service.
    He was one of the original CBS Electronics employees that came to Salem in 1961. He and 74 other employees worked at a leased space located at Osram in Danvers waiting for EG&G Salem to be completed.

    Bruce was a loyal member of Maple Street Congregational Church for many years and helped with the sound equipment for services as well as recordings for the local broadcasts. Bruce was also a member of the Danvers Historical Society and DeMolay and loved to play bridge.

    Bruce "K1LVV" was also an avid HAM radio operator for many years and enjoyed the comradery associated with the HAM radio groups and Field Days.

    If you knew Bruce, he always had a purpose. He was a man of great intellect and of few words.
    He was very proud of his family and granddaughters, Emily and Meghan. He loved being able to spend the last years living in Sarasota with them. He can now be reunited with those he loved and lost.

    Who knows, he may even figure out a way to signal from Heaven...If anyone could, it would be my dad.

    Bruce is survived by his only daughter, Joyce (Birnie) Govaars, and her husband, Christin, of Sarasota, FL. His granddaughters, Emily and Meghan Govaars of Sarasota, FL Bruce is also survived by his brother, Donal Birnie and his wife, Cherie, of Danvers, MA., his sister Glenda and her husband Bob Supino of The Villages, FL as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Services will be held at Maple Street Congregational Church, dates and times to be determined.
