FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, 16 FEBRUARY, 2016

On August 27-28, 2016, Kings County ARES (the Amateur Radio Emergency Service) will establish a temporary Special Event Station on Battle Hill in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY to commemorate the 240th anniversary of the historic “Battle of Brooklyn.

Kings County ARES is an all-volunteer organization working in collaboration with the New York City District ARES and the American Radio Relay League (ARRL® the National Organization of Amateur Radio Operators) to provide radio communications by FCC Licensed Amateur Radio Operators during times of emergency through our served agencies, such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Brookdale University Hospital, and the National Weather Service’s Skywarn® Program.

The aim of the Kings County ARES Battle of Brooklyn Special Event Station is to establish two-way worldwide Amateur Radio communications during the commemoration, utilizing a unique Call Sign when making and receiving radio contacts.

Special Event Stations are among the most contacted entities in the Amateur Radio world, and the recognition of this wartime event will allow millions of radio operators and shortwave listeners, and the general public across the globe, to connect and learn about the events and actors that made the 1776 Battle of Brooklyn an important moment in American history.

For more information please contact Bob Jordan, Emergency Coordinator, Kings County ARES at (917) 484-1154 or email at KD2BQM@arrl.net.
