Alton D. "Pete" Galloup, 81, of Baldwin, passed away Jan. 15, 2008, in Traverse City. He was born in Fenwick on May 1, 1926, to Alton "John" and Mabel Galloup.

Pete graduated from high school in Sheridan and from the College of Life Underwriters.

He served his country in the United States Navy in both World War II and the Korean War.

Pete moved to Chase in 1946, to Traverse City in 1968, and to Baldwin in 1989. Along the way, he worked for the railroad in Baldwin, Babbs Ford Auto Sales in Evart and the Prudential Insurance Company, earning numerous sales awards.

Pete was a friend to all and thoroughly enjoyed his friendships. He was a great outdoors man, and hunting and fishing were an important part of his life.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, the Masonic Lodge (32nd Degree Mason), and the Congregational Church of Baldwin. He was a ham radio operator, enjoyed bird watching and belonged to the Grand Traverse Metis.

Pete is survived by longtime companion and dear friend, Carol Willis; three sons, Steve (Andrea) Galloup of Traverse City, Finton (Connie) Galloup of Traverse City and Kelly (Penny) Galloup of Ennis, Mont. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, John and Pete Galloup; Holly, Heather, Hanna, Spencer and Halley Galloup; and Madison, MacKenzie and Delaney Galloup. Two sisters also survive, Juanita Stokely and Darlena McDaniel.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Velma "Sis" (Petchell) Galloup; parents, Alton "John" and Mabel Galloup; brother, Richard "Dusty" Galloup; infant grandson, Adam Galloup; and companion, Cindy Dechow.

Visitation will be today, Jan. 18, 2008, between 6 and 9 p.m., at Verdun Funeral Home in Baldwin. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., at Baldwin Congregational Church.
