The 6 meter band seems to be a dead band here in Alabama. Everyone seems to work only 2/440. Anyone interested in attempting to work 6 Meters. I used to work 6 when I started ham radio way back in the 70's and had a great time . I have several 6 meter radio's that need the dust and electrons moved around so II am going to attempt to work some SSB / FM in the next few weeks or so. Maybe I can stir up some interest.in the magic or forgotten band. See y'all on 6 next weekend.

Only 6M I have worked was last month using MSK144. Haven't heard any SSB since last year but then you have to catch sporadic-E or tropo out of the blue. Did some SSB May/June and Sept. last year. There were some good openings in June of 2015.

Yup, it's hard to say your "gonna sit down and work some 6M"! I have a TS2000 dedicated to listening to 6m almost all day, every day, all year long. In the last year I've heard two good SSB openings and one JT65a Transatlantic opening. The rest have been on MSK144 as well. In fact, I think I've seen ND0NPT on my heard list!

    Thanks,

    Ed

I really enjoy six meters myself. Hopefully we will see the band open up to some decent SSB activity in the next 2-3 months. Propagation has been horrible for any kind of decent SSB DX for quite a while. There is however a North Alabama 6 meter net that meets every night Monday-Friday at 9:00 pm. I check into it most every night myself. There are usually quite a few stations checking in from all over Alabama, Tennessee and a few from Georgia. It meets on 50.150. There is also a six meter repeater not that very far from where you are. There is most definitely 6 meter activity in Alabama. Just have to know when and where. Good luck and 73.

I got halfway to VUCC last summer running 100W into an attic dipole and using Jt65 on 6 meters. Hoping to finish this summer if propagation is good. Except for MSK144, there seems to be very little 6 meter digital activity stateside since last winter.

As you point out, 6M was in great shape back in the early to mid 70s. I was stationed in Norfolk Virginia and used to work stations in NY ans ME almost every night. (water path)
