This year, on Memorial Day Weekend, Special Event Station K2P will be operating to celebrate the 150th annual Memorial Day Parade along Third Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. This is the oldest continuously held Memorial Day parade in the US honoring those who fought for rights and freedom going back to the Civil War.

The parade passes through Historic Bay Ridge and ends at the Parade Grounds in John Paul Jones Park next to Fort Hamilton under the majestic Verrazano-Narrows Bridge linking Staten Island to the rest of New York City. To locals, it is known as Cannonball Park for the giant iron cannon and assemblage of 16 inch iron balls that were once used to defend the Narrows (entrance to NY Harbor) from invaders.

K2P will be operating from Saturday morning through Monday afternoon on the common HF bands in the General portions where applicable and as conditions dictate. If you hear us, spot us on the cluster and give a shout. We want to talk to everyone who wishes to make the contact and will be providing a custom certificate for those confirmed contacts on at least two different bands during the weekend.

For anyone in the NYC Area, please come visit us Monday, May 29 (the day of the parade) as we operate from the park itself in the shadow of the gigantic bridge.

More details will be available on Google + and Facebook as we get closer to the event date.
