That's the signal report. Typically 59 on SSB or on CW 599 on digital it would be your db report from WSJT.

    Readibility Signal Tone

Doesn't only apply to contests, it's universal, used all the time.

    R is a 1-5 scale
    S and T are a 1-9 scale

Not sure I would call 13 Colonies a contest. It is more of an activity celebrating Independence Day. Also, it was not listed on the WA7BNM contest calendar. Hope you had a chance to get on the air and make some contacts. It is a lot of fun and gets me to knock some rust off my CW. Pretty rusty these days!

Yes...I know he did. That wasn't the question. It was more of a "how'd I break that mess of a pile-up so quickly".

Sorry about that. Didn't have my glasses when I read it the first time. Thought you weren't sure. Was too late to delete it.

No..it's fine. It was one of those pileups that starts before the DX unkeys calling QRZ/CQ and is just non-stop until sometimes after the DX has called someone; with a handful of stations throwing calls out randomly because they clearly can't hear the guy. You wait a cycle to see what you're up against and it's the equivalent of solid s9 noise of cacophony.

I know at least one of the US colony stations I worked *during* the pile-up. Stupid strong signals both ways so we completed before the pile-up had quit.

I believe it's listed as a Special Event. I always look forward to this one and the W9IMS event as well. Thank you to all the operators out there who made it possible and as always looking forward to next year!

THE best and most fun special event of the year! I look forward to it all the time.
Hit clean sweep, plus WM3PEN and TM13COL, unfortunate, GB13 was lonely and I called for 15 min, with no answer. That's frusterating! He was in the mud, and I'm sure I was too.
Lots of noisy signals this year vs last, props to the event ops for taking time and clarifying calls when needed.

Not so good for me this year, a whopping 3, L, H, F.
Last year got all but bonus.
    Try again next year.

It is a Special Event. The WARC bands are in play during the event so please don’t call it a “contest.” How long on HF?

If it's a "contest" how do you win?

That same split hair comes up every year. People think of a contest because of the huge competitive pile-ups. Americans can celebrate their Independence Day freedom by calling it whatever they like. As for me, I call it fun! :)

It is a Special Event and not a Contest. The WARC bands are in play during the Special Event where no Contesting is allowed based on Gentlemen's Agreement.

Does a DXpedition pileup make it a "contest?" No. It's a Dxpedition.
