Hi All, I haven't really posted many of my videos here, but this was my all time favorite SOTA activation so far. I wanted to share it. On March 31st, 2021 I activated Mt Hood, W7O/CN-001. I started my hike in the dark at 3am and summited around 7:40am. It was a whirlwind pileup on 2 meters with 29 QSOs in 20 minutes. Huge thank you to the chasers. 73, Tim N7KOM
100% watchable. Thank you! Love the EFHW 2m antenna (that works well) and the demo of polarization at 8:51.
Thanks Tim. I can relate to that. You treated it really nice. I've activated the summit of Mt Whitney 14,500 feet several times with two meters and six meters SSB. But that was a long time ago before SOTA was even thought of so it doesn't count as an activation. HI. You obviously had a bit more of an adventure getting to the summit than I did. Although on one of my trips the descent was a steep glissade over a mile long. It was fast.
Thanks for the kind comments all. It was a super fun day out. My voice was hoarse from those QSOs. @KX4O , Thanks for the longranger link. Interesting to read about my favorite 2m antenna. -Tim N7KOM
Ah, yes, during my two years in Portland working “on the Hill” (at OHSU) it was cool driving to work each morning with Mount Hood in front of me. But what was even cooler was driving home at night with Mount Hood filling my rear view mirror! 73, N3AWS
Now that was one fabulous activation Tim. Your video is well done and certainly shows all aspects of that difficult but very successful summit! Well done all around!
Sad to have missed your SOTA call! Would have loved to have heard from you on a new summit! N7ZZE - Benjamin
