I do not associate "greed" with good. Greedy people will twist words and spin facts for thier own benefit. Syntax and semantics I guess.

Nonsense. Way too slow of a mode to be effective for this purpose.

I'm not an expert on FinTech, but lots of evidence points to that being a wrong conclusion.

The researchers in the OP presentation are not expecting to transfer an entire blockchain ledger or do "mining". They are suggesting individual basic transactions, which appear to be as small as 250 bytes. That would seem within the capabilities of a HF radio link using a WSJT style protocol.

    Ref here,

Early proof of concept should be OK, but actual commercial transactions by Hams would probably not be permitted in the USA under current FCC Part 97 regs.

How about Hedy Lamarr spread spectrum ?
Better than the usual QRM and contests, under the current user base.

I think people here are zeroing in on the wrong thing. Yes, Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and not suitable for amateur radio. But the underlying technology is Blockchain and that technology doesn't have to be limited to bitcoins. There could be other uses for it, also.

That's one possibility. There are many.

Now I understand. It's a pyramid scheme. Drive up a false demand to justify a ridiculous increase in value.

By definition pyramid schemes are illegal. Bitcoin is not in the USA. Legal tender in Japan.

What is a "false" demand? Choices of people determine demand. Perhaps it is unwise demand .

Cryptocurrencies appear to be simply another form of Fiat money. Like Federal Reserve Notes, or the Euro, except open-sourced, decentralized, transparent, perceived as less manipulated by "The Establishment".

The increase in Bitcoin price (not value) perhaps also indicates negative demand, ie, distrust, disillusionment, inconvenience, mostly by younger generations, of other currency forms and associated economies.

Hmmm ... why would that be ?

Kinda like why do so many hams now choose FT8 over other modes ...

I cannot remember exactly,,,I once heard a definition of the stock market as: a psychological reaction to the perceived relationship between supply and demand at any given moment. It is also somewhat of a pyramid scheme. If there wasn't a high profit and low tax rate nobody would put
money into it and there would be less for those that live of the trading schemes and push to make it attractive so they can skim.
I think the new generation sees a lot of disenfranchisement and the funny business in our systems.
That's why they don't work hard for someone else and have no loyalty.
Will the new version of FT8 even require an operator?
What exactly makes bitcoin so valuable? Or does it just make USD worth less? Will it cause another crash or 'correction'?
Just a few random thoughts to your post.

Thanks for your hilarious tongue-in-cheek post recently in another thread referring to the John Shaft character! Ever since reading that the mind-worm of Issac Hayes / Charles Pitts "wah-wah" guitar has been turning in my head !!

Best wishes for your mother. That sense of humor will help in tough times. There are many in the Ham / Zed frat that have your back empathically too.

Again I'm a neither a cryptocurrency fan nor user (yet) but the debate over it sure can get irrational. A lot of half-baked voodoo economics.

Obviously there is a lot of electrical energy usage in Bitcoin, and its right to be concerned. But the Greens also need to look more carefully at all the depletion of natural resources and polluting fuel being used to make and move conventional physical money and payments. Paper mills flushing nasty crap to print notes, mints running full blast to strike coinage, stinky armored cars delivering cash to ATM's, picking up store deposits, etc etc etc, day after day.

I have a ham pal that was a commercial pilot. One of his coolest gigs was flying CANCELED CHECKS in a C310 between regional Fed banks. The public can be so naive, they have no clue what happens when a cheque is processed. EVERY NIGHT there is a whole fleet of aircraft dedicated to the timely transfer of such payments, as fast as possible, to keep the "float" low. All weather, dark and dangerous (usually a SOLO pilot), energy gulping first-class service !!

He strapped a 2m 1/4w antenna under the belly and carried a HT. It was fun to do simplex aeronautical mobile out > 300 miles when at altitude.

I wonder more how Bitcoin would change the experience at a casino or ... strip-club? :eek:o_O:oops::rolleyes:

Physical checks are rarely transported anymore. They are processed electronically and have been for many years (see Check 21 act).

You can even do this at home to a physical check using a cell phone camera and an app from your bank. You don't even need to take the check to the bank. My cancelled personal checks (the few I write now) are images that I can retrieve from my bank's website. I think one can request them to print paper versions but I've never done it.
