    Larry Smith 4-29-2024
    One of the founders of the Western Kentucky DX Association. An avid DXer and friend.

    Larry Ray Smith, 81, of Alvaton, KY, entered into rest on April 29, 2024. His death occurred unexpectedly at The Medical Center of Bowling Green. Born on July 11, 1942, in Bowling Green, he was a lifelong resident of Warren County. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Marilyn Clark Smith, and his mother, Kathleen (Miller) Smith.
    Graduating in 1960 from Warren County High School, he went on to serve as a Petty Officer in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Henley, DD 762. He participated in the Cuban Blockade during the Russian Missile Crisis in 1962.
    After serving in the United States Navy, he worked as a UPS Delivery Driver and retired after 33 years of service. He received many Safe Driving Awards during his UPS tenure.
    He was a charter member of Alvaton church of Christ. He lived his faith by being genuine and generous to others.
    He began a lifelong passion for Amateur Radio at the age of 12. Being a member of the Western Kentucky DX Association, he spent many hours communicating with others all over the world. An avid sports fan, he followed the Chicago Cubs and attended many Western Kentucky Hilltopper games with Brian.
    He was deeply loved by his survivors, including son Brian Smith, brother Ron Smith (Patty), brother-in-law Glenn Taylor, three nieces, Teresa Siegel (Larry), Cynthia Jernigan (Terry), Kelley Clack (Russ) and nephew, Ron Smith, Jr. (Stephanie).
    Funeral services will be Friday, May 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm and Friday 9:00 am until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bowling Green Gardens with Military Honors.
    Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Foundation Christian Academy Marilyn and Larry Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund or Wounded Warrior Project.
