CQ Ohm is reporting that production of the popular Yaesu FT-897D/DM/DS transceivers is to cease

They say there no immediate plans for a successor model.

The CQ Ohm shop is now selling the remaining HF/VHF/UHF transceivers for 95,000 Yen (Excluding 8% sales tax) which is $927 or £552.

What a bummer. Are they ending the 857D soon too?

Question is when will they stop supporting the 857D.

It's about time, that rig and most of the Yaesu line up are so tired. tiny displays, dated styling.

I hope they come out with some new gear to replace it.

These links say the FT-897D is being discontinued (or did I read that wrong?)

That is correct, it is being discontinued, and

The Yaesu FT-857D works the same internally so you could use that instead. Unfortunately, that model has problems with lines appearing in the screen, which can render it unreadable. And since the 897D was discontinued, I am concerned that the 857D may follow shortly. :(

Dear Yaesu, yes its way over due to come out with a replacement for the FT-8x7 series with improvements like IF-DSP, IQ or (preferred) IF output ..but one thing to keep in mind...whatever you do

DO NOT go "Icom" and put the new Digital C4FM stuff into them and just make it more expensive with a feature no one will use. keep those a separate product line.

Considering these rigs are at least a decade old, it doesn't surprise me. But it would be nice to see the official Yaesu statement on this. So far, all I see is a couple of Japanese blogs saying so.

Not that I have a horse in this race, it's a 10+ year old rig anyway, but I've sent an email to inquire. I'll post their response here if any.

I want Yaesu to come up with something portable, HF VHF UHF and proper rugged and weatherproof!

One question: Has this been verified by Yaesu USA or Yaesu HQ in Japan or just a rumor from a dealer that sells radios. I would want to check with the manufacturer before taking this as fact. I guess I will do this for you.
