I agree with not getting much in a twist over the connection with the United Nations, but I do question the mission and place of the IARU. The club that represents U.S. licensees at the IARU has consistently failed to represent all such licensees in its political activities on behalf of its assigned constituency. The ARRL makes it a point to first consider the interests of its subscribers in domestic dealings, at a time only 20 percent of U.S. licensees are paid members of the group. Meantime, in matters related to regional and international rule making that may affect our activities, there has been little to no information to suggest the ARRL has asked the other 80 percent of American licensees for their thoughts on any proposals. Oh, and I have not been able to find any plans for the ARRL's flagship station, W1AW, to participate in any of these "World Amateur Radio" special event promotions. What does that say about the League's devotion to its responsibility at the IARU?
