Walter was born in Smyth County to the late Walter Paul Byrd & Willie Mae Pennington Byrd and was a member of the Falling Water Baptist Church. He retired from the Marion Police Department as a dispatcher after 29 years and then drove for District III. Survivors include: One Brother: Warren Byrd & wife Sue, Marion, VA One Nephew: Joseph A. Byrd & wife Kristen Special Friends: The Eric Boggs Family of Marion Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday January 30, 2015 at the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Reverend Tim Boyette officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 — 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Falling Water Baptist Church Brotherhood, 2206 Highway 16, Marion, VA 24354.
