    Walter Pleasants III Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2024.
Walter Charles Pleasants III died peacefully with family at his bedside on the morning of Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 at the Bay Pines Veterans Administration under the care of hospice at the age of 84. Walter was born in New York City on June 3rd, 1939, the first son of Walter Charles Pleasants II and Margaret Mruk.

His early years were spent in Washington DC, where his dad worked at the Pentagon during WWII. After the war, his family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana until Walter turned 13, when they moved onto St Pete Beach, Florida to start the Dairy Freeze. Many good times and adventures were had boating and fishing by both Walter and his surviving brother, Kenneth Paul Pleasants (KP) living on a vacation island on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Interested in radios and flying, Walter spent his life an active member of the St Petersburg Civil Air Patrol with the rank of Major. Walter earned his HAM license and his pilots license at 14 and 16 years of age, respectively. Walter loved flying and was licensed on multiple planes from paraglider to multi-engine planes and flew until he went blind from glaucoma. Walter continued volunteering for the Civil Air Patrol and manning the airwaves until the last years of his life.

Many interesting jobs were held by Walter, working at NCR for his early career and then contracting for companies such as NASA, Disney and Raytheon, not to mention a host of other national defense companies. Walter served proudly in both the US Army and US Air Force. In the Army, Walter was a paratrooper with over 400 jumps and continued for years in the Army Reserves. In the US Air Force, Walter worked on bomb navigation systems, which aided him in his work as an aviation technical writer later in life.

Walter is survived by two children, Christa Anne Pleasants and Gordon "Scott" Pleasants (Carole), his brother KP Pleasants (Gail), four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. His ashes will be sent out to sea.

    May he rest in peace.
