Samish Overlook was an amazing place to sit for a few hours and participate in the 2023 Washington State QSO Party, also know as Salmon Run. This yearly amateur radio event is focused on making contacts with the 39 Washington state counties, and further information may be found at the link below.

A rule change in 2023 allowed for self-spotting, and I also activated 2 POTA parks from this location... Blanchard State Forest K-5566 and PNW National Scenic Trail K-4563 (trail went in front of the park bench).

The picnic table at Samish was an amazing place to play radio for a few hours! In such a public spot with many starting their hike to Oyster Dome, many stopped by to ask what I was doing...which created many opportunities to share about our hobby!

It was great to make contacts across WA counties, other US States, and even Japan. Most of the contacts in WA were made on the 40m band with a 20/40m linked PackTenna end-fed. Making contacts with other members of the Snohomish County Hams Club was a highlight, along with many other great operators!

Keep Learning & Exploring...and Playing Radio!
