Nils Olvesen, age 64, died in the early morning hours of August 8, 2020 at his home in Jensen Beach, FL. He was born on September 13, 1955 in Manhattan, New York and raised by Edwin and Joan Olvesen. He grew up and spent most of his young adult life in Weehauken, New Jersey. He loved sailing, bowling, playing the piano, and had a particular knack and love for technology.

He was first licensed as an amateur radio operator in 1980 under the callsign KA2DCB. With his Heathkit SB-101, he worked many stations from around the world, amassing an impressive lot of QSL cards. He later moved to Houston, TX in 1991, where he changed his callsign to N5WVS. After he later moved to Florida with his family in 1997, he applied for the callsign KG4CAM. It was he who taught his son about amateur radio and brought him into the hobby under his wing.

He graduated from Weehauken High School in 1973 and later graduated from Jersey City State College in 1978 with a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science. Coming from a maritime background, he spent summers working as a merchant mariner during his time in college, sailing around the world and traveling across the Atlantic to many countries in Europe and South America. On February 13, 1993; he married Susan Samolyk; and on December 30, 1994; they had one son named Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife and son with great sorrow. His departure from this world left a hole in the hearts of many that only time can mend. May God rest his body, and may his soul live forever free.
