Special Event Station N4B Battlefield Adventure Day

The New Bern Amateur Radio Club (W4EWN, New Bern, NC) will be operating a Special Event Station as call N4B on Saturday, 16 March 2024. Times may be flexible, but planned operating hours are least 16:00 - 20:00 UTC.


Planned Frequencies and Modes:
Phone: 20m on or near 14.325 MHz
CW: 40m on or near 7.060 MHz
Subject to change.

Battlefield Adventure Day is an annual event hosted by the New Bern Historical Society at the Battle of New Bern Battlefield Park US Civil War battle site. Adventure Day is an educational event for area youth 6-12 where re-enactors and history enthusiasts engage youth with living history displays and activities.

Battlefield Adventure Day

Amateur Radio Club members will operate stations for a booth titled "Communications: Then and Now." Our display includes posters covering Flag Signals, Codes and Ciphers, and Telegraph use during the war. We also have working wired telegraph models for youth to try their hand on sending Morse Code.

CW operations are a strong tie-in for the educational mission of this event, so we will be operating nominally 13-20 WPM with specific calls for slower CW operators.

QSL Cards as shown below will be mailed to confirm all contacts we receive a card for; no SASE required. Please allow several months minimum for reply card.
