Alfred Kendall Laighton, born November 28, 1919 in New York City, died January 1, 2012 in Lakeside, CA. Ken's father was a cotton-broker, and the family was well off until the Great Depression. The Depression taught him the frugal manner he carried throughout the rest of his life. Ken met the love of his life, Natalie, through his sister and they married in 1948. Ken attended New York University, earning bachelors and master's degrees in electrical engineering while working full time and starting a family. In 1958, Ken's employer, RCA, transferred him to Camden, New Jersey. Ken, a life-long Episcopalian, became very active at St. Mary's Church in Haddon Heights. He also volunteered with the fire department and, after his wife's death from cancer in 1993, worked as a hospice volunteer. Ken moved to CA in 2002 to be near one of his daughters. Ken had a lifelong interest in steam locomotives and organ music and later in life became a ham radio operator.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife and his youngest daughter, Linda Bahr. He is survived by his daughters Marion (Mindy) Wilcox of La Mesa, CA and Elizabeth (Betsy) Fletcher of Huntsville, AL, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, White Horse Pike and Green St. in Haddon Heights on March 17, 2012 at 11:00am. Donations in his memory may be made to the church.
