IOTA Special Event for HORN ISLAND NA-082 Will activate using the callsign K5I from 1900Z March 10 to 1900Z March 11. (NOON Central Time) this weekend.

Operators will be W5BJC, W5JMO, WB5HSX and W5MPC. QSL information to W5MPC.

BANDS: 80M, 40M and 20M
MODES: CW, SSB, DIGITAL

The frequencies of choice will be;

SSB - 21.260, 18.128, 14.260, 7.235, 3.755
CW - 21.040, 18.098, 14.040, 7.040, 3.530

It looks like we'll have 160 meters and digital modes going as well.

 

For anyone who was trying to work this special event and couldn't do so I found out why...

The person who planned the event wrote an email saying that they were plagued with problems. The boat lost its motor and they had to use ORES. Then when they made it to the island it was 8pm saturday night. They ate dinner before setting up anything.

They setup the radios and antennas and the shelters and for some reason they shelters collapsed, and three of the 4 people became injured and they just called it quits. THEY made a few contacts on 40 meters CW and that was it.

They plan on going again in the summer but with better knowledge of what not to do.
