Here is youtube link for "captain dave's phone patch 9-1-17. In wake of hurricane Harvey an air traffic controller at Houston airport tells his story of surviving the ordeal. Great timeline ! Part two is phone patch with woman who has a music/art display at the Black Rock Desert Burning Man in Nevada. Thanks to Greg WA2SFT on air and Steve KC6KNL for recording and putting it up on youtube with video.
Florida Attorney General says she's received 7,000+ complaints (100 per hour!) for price gouging! See https://finance.yahoo.com/news/almost-7-000-complaints-price-210328832.html Probably because they only fine $1000 for it and the people doing this are making such a large profit they'll gladly pay the fine to make the big profits they're making. They need to increase the fine!
Seems like this could be considered an abuse of privileges? http://www.arrl.org/phone-patch-guidelines
For a storm, you have two ways to be prepared: Either stock up and make preparations ahead of time or be prepared to spend more for the things you need when you need it.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Can you take the lead on this, right after hurricane season is over? https://www.fcc.gov/enforcement I'd love to chat with you about this at length, but I'm taking a short break between making runs to the gas station to fill all the neighborhood portable generators. That "Captain Dave" dude is a loser. Whenever I've heard him he's been drunk, cursing and broadcasting for hours on end.
Those who think ki4thy's call in phone patch operation is an abuse need to check out FCC 's finding's in past case. http://www.smeter.net/fcc/fcc-finding.php Love to see a lively debate on the issue. 73's to all, "captain dave"
Sounds like a few "Kilocycle Cops" may have been offended by a "Micro-Aggression" directly related to 3rd-party phone patch traffic! God help us all! The amateur radio community may never recover from this despicable act of heresy and all involved parties will be excommunicated from the ranks of ham radio by the self-proclaimed "RF gods"! In other words, relax....take a few deep breaths and exhale. It will all be OK....seriously it will! Remember ham radio is not only a community service, but it is also a HOBBY! Just when I hear someone talking about "abuse of privileges" for something like that, it kinda makes me laugh as it brings back memories of the old "2-Meter CB'ers" back in the 70's. They had their own rule book and took names of the "undesirable hams" who chose not to join their repeater club plus harassed their families. Back then the Morse Code was the only thing that kept them off the low bands. But that is another chapter in ham radio history! No offense intended to any parties....just constructive sarcasm!
FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION Gettysburg, PA 17325-7245 February 7, 2003 Mr. James S. Watkins 618 S Main Street C Burbank, CA 91506 RE: Amateur Radio license KI6GU Case #EB-2002-451 Dear Mr. Watkins: On October 15, 2002, we forwarded to you complaints about the operation of your station. The complaints related to operation on 3.830 MHz on August 16 and 24, 2002, and alleged that you had operated a call-in show or "reverse phone patch". We requested additional information from you in regard to that operation. We have reviewed the response you provided to us on November 12, 2002, and find that there were no violations of Commission rules since licensed operators were in control of the station during all transmissions. We have therefore closed this matter, and thank you for your prompt reply and cooperation. Sincerely, W.
