    Funeral services for James Martin Burckhalter, 63, of Barnwell, SC will be held four p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with burial in the Barnwell County Cemetery by the airport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. James passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012. Born in Orangeburg, SC, he was a son of the late Lewis Rudolph and Louise Bates Burckhalter and was married to Marcia Bowles Burckhalter. He attended Barnwell Presbyterian Church and was District Manager for Solid & Hazardous Waste & Emergency Response Environmental Quality Control, SCDHEC for 37 years. He was awarded the Michael O. Jarrett Outstanding Customer, Service Award Team Member, 1999 and 2005, the highest DHEC Award, member of the Magnolia Chapter, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, member of EQC Team of the month 1999, EQC Team of Year Member 2002, and a member of Salkehatchie Amateur Radio Society. He was a graduate of Barnwell High School and USC with a BS in Biology and the USC School of Public Health- MPH, certified Hazardous Material Manager, and was awarded USEPA Fellowship to attend graduate school of Public Health. Survivors include his wife, Marcia; daughter, Laura Jane Burckhalter; son, Russell Lewis Burckhalter, all of Barnwell; aunt, Grace Burckhalter of Jackson, SC; mother-in-law, Mildred Bowles of Blackstock, SC and other cousins, nieces and nephews.
