    John V. Yacovelli, age 98 of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Emily Lewis Yacovelli, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2015 in Cambridge Manor.

    John was born in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield, son of the late Rose and Vincent Yacovelli, brother of the late Rocco Yacovelli and Isabelle Tanner of Tampa, FL.
    He was a graduate of St. Thomas Grade School and Roger Ludlowe High School, class of 1935.
    John was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves and called to active duty in 1937 and was at San Diego, CA when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, he continued to serve five and a half years as a First Class Radio Technician.

    John married Emily in May 1947.
    After the war, John worked for R. G. Sceli & Company selling electronic parts in Fairfield County, Lederer App Store as service manager, General Electric Company, Singer Manufacturing, Sikorsky Aircraft in the test lab, and retired after thirty years as a self-employed part owner of the Better Television Service Company with Bruce Dolego.
    He enjoyed playing golf at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course with a plus handicap, loved to fish, clam and power boat on Long Island Sound, an accomplished wood carver, and since 1934 he had a hobby in amateur radios with a call sign W1IKB, it was an extra class licensed by the F.C.C.

    John was a life member of Fayerweather Yacht Club, Amateur Radio Association, TELSA of Connecticut Association and a member of the AARP Bridgeport Chapter 831.

    Survivors include two devoted sons; Paul Yacovelli and wife Deborah of Shelton, and John Yacovelli of Ansonia, three grandchildren; Michael Yacovelli, Tracey Deso, and Morgan Yacovelli, five great grandchildren; Courtney and Emily Yacovelli, Raymond and Nicholas Deso and Zane Yacovelli, and his best friend and companion Bertha Skarupa of Stratford.

    Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5p.m., in the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.

    Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Mountain Grove of Easton Cemetery, with full military honors.
