    this becomes a curious problem when you have a 705, 7300 and 9700 all connected to the same linux machine.

    This problem can be averted by making udev rules. And making different symbolic links for the different radios you are connecting or making scrips that use the by-ids or the radios and starting rigcrtld for each radio connected
    It is important to know usb ports are dynamic in nature unlike windows where a physical device can be named.

    For sure, something I do with all my radiods.

    The issue in this case is the very close, but not quite the same TI audio chipset.
