Technically there are no "MARS BAND"'s per se but these words are used to describe parts of the spectrum where MARS operations may occur. MARS uses military frequencies which are meant to be confidential and not officially published to the public, although many SWL's report them online. Most but not all MARS frequencies are quite close to the ham band edges, a few to a few hundred KHz above or below them. So called MARS BAND mods are to enable the rig to transmit on those frequencies. However, sometimes these or similar mods allow the rig to xmit across its entire general coverage range.
i see in the past in the packet radio bullettins some mods in the ham rigs ( yaesu, icom etc..... ) that say MOD MARS... what are ? UPDATE: i update my article today .... with new famous ham in USA , now have 35 pages.
(MARS MOD) That's a modification "MOD" of the radio to allow it to transmit out of band on MARS HF frequency's. There may even be MODS for VHF rigs as well not sure though haven't look. Dave. NNN0XJJ NNNN
There you go ..... I was in NAVCORPSMARS in the 70's - 80's .... All was good until they moved from 4.018 to where ever ...... My HF rig could not go there .... I ran with the RTTY traffic nets.... Most were Vietnam and enlistment MARSGRAM content .... JB NNN0ZYD NNNN
