In my last video, I built a 20 meter dipole antenna out of incandescent Christmas lights. In this video, after some much needed improvements, (and thank you to Josh - KI6NAZ for the help troubleshooting), I took the Christmas light dipole antenna out to Cedar Hill State Park (K-2996) in Cedar Hill, TX and put it to the test to see if I could successfully make a park activation on this homemade antenna! I was a bit shocked by the performance! Hope this inspires some of you to go out and build antennas and experiment with them. Hope y'all enjoy, this was a fun project! 73, KI5IRE
ajhhhh, cool beans? If this is used for POTA, why bother with the Christmas tree lights? And no, didn't watch the utoob.
The lights light up in sync with the amplitude increase in your voice / transmission power. It creates a visual effect that is pleasing to see, and a visual aid for operating wavelength and output power. It's neat, and could maybe invite others to come ask what's going on which could give the operator an opportunity to talk about amateur radio.
