    William's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William "Bill" Continelli, also known by his radio pseudonym W2xoy, on April 19, 2024. Born on December 28, 1953, William was a beloved figure with an irrepressible wit, a generous spirit, and an unending reserve of knowledge.
William was a dedicated family man, eternally remembered by his loving wife Nancy Barbour Continelli, whom he married in 2001.
He leaves behind an extensive family, including his children Lorie Bethoux, Jessica Velow, Jenn Barbour and Jeremy Barbour; his sons-in-law Nicholas Bethoux and Keith Velow; his daughters-in-law Kelly Barbour and Stephanie Parent, and his grandsons Alex Barbour, Max Barbour, and Theo Bethoux. He is also survived by his sisters Tracey Continelli and Anne Continelli, and his beloved cousin Michele Martin.

He was predeceased by his father Basil, his mother Ann, and his brother Bernard Continelli.
A graduate of Canisius High School in 1971 and Canisius University in 1977, both located in Buffalo, NY, William exhibited his quick wit and sense of humor early on. His career was as impressive as it was extensive, notably including 20+ years of federal service as an IRS Revenue Officer, bankruptcy specialist, and enrolled agent. His intellect and the breadth of his interests identified him as not only an amateur HAM radio operator but also a spirited Railfan.
Despite his accomplishments, the lessons William passed on were simple yet profound. He encouraged all to enjoy life to its fullest and find humor in everyday living. His legacy will undoubtedly continue in the hearty laughs shared in his memory and the lives he touched with his boundless wit and wisdom.

William's presence will be greatly missed by his faithful canine companions, Muffin and Cupcake, who provided him with much solace and joy. In the wake of his departure, those who knew and loved him seek comfort in their recollections of his vibrant spirit and relentless humor. Though no longer present in body, the essence of who William was – a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend – will forever remain alive in our hearts.

Just 24 hours after hearing of another ham friend, named Bill, KI4FZT's passing, I got a call that a Bill Continelli, W2XOY, passed Friday afternoon.

He lived in NC outside Raleigh, and came from Albany, NY, and he was a great storyteller. We had him doing segments on the "This Week in Amateur Radio" podcast and he would tell stories about the history of ham radio.

One of his biggest pet peeves was not being prepared, and he ALWAYS carried a radio with him no matter where he went. In fact, he carried several, such as an AM/FM/Shortwave radio, CB, Scanner, and FRS radios as well, in a "radio bag" which could be a computer laptop case, briefcase, or backpack.

He did a story for us right after September 11, 2001 happened. The 10 min recording is here. He was in a building south of the WTC and heard and felt the 2nd plane as it struck 2 WTC. He used his radios to get to Penn Station on the first Amtrak out of NYC after the attacks. I recommend it for good listening and good "lesson"ing on the need to have a radio wherever you go. Thanks to this recording, I try to keep at least my ham radio with me at all times. I think everyone should have a "radio bag" handy just in case "all else fails".

In fact, I need to go through my bag, I need to put my portable shortwave and GMRS radio in it...I think I'll do that now...73 Bill and rest easy
