W7BMI Bob Sloate

Today I read that W7BMI is SK, in QST.

I knew BMI since the 50's, when my dad was a ham, and Bob was always one who didn't cave into the "what's happening now" part of the local ham scene.

While others were ranting and raving about their new-bought toys, he did what traditional hams always did -- use what he had, and enjoyed it.

Most of his operation was on CW, and he developed a keen fist. When others woudn't use CW, he smiled and talked about another DX country he had worked.

A truly modest, quiet ham -- Bob was one of the best out there.
