DXCC NEWS (Contact Your DXAC Representative). On November 1st, the Great
Lakes Division (GLD) amateurs were informed by Stan Arnett II, AC8W, GLD
DXAC Representative, of the following [edited]: "Given the evident popu-
larity of the new FT8 mode of communication demonstrated by the data
collected in LoTW showing a seven figure increase in the number of monthly
QSOs year over year resulting from the explosive adoption of the mode by
hams worldwide, and the extremely high percentage (approximating 40%) of
all QSOs being made with this mode at the current sunspot minimum.
The DXAC is investigating the advisability, feasibility and desir-
ability of creating or modifying one or more digital mode awards in the
DXCC program to accommodate encourage and reward new modes of amateur
    radio activity on the bands.
How do you feel? Should we:
    a) Create endorsement stickers for the existing Digital DXCC (i.e.
    RTTY-100; PSK31-100, JT65-100, FT8-100, etc with incremental stickers
    125, 150, 200 and so on)
    b) Create a separate DXCC award for each mode
    c) Do nothing at all and leave new digital modes under the existing
    Digital DXCC.

    Are there other options?
Your opinion is important so let Stan know at <ac8w@arrl.net>.
Deadline for responses is Wednesday, November 14th."

*** (ed.) It may be wise to contact your DXAC Representative to express
    your opinion or ideas.

SILENT KEY. Well-known contester/antenna farmer the Reverend Paul Bittner,
W0AIH, of Fall Creek, Wisconsin, became a Silent Key (SK) on October 31st.
Reports indicate that during tower maintenance, a mishap claimed Bittner's
life. Paul was 84. For more details, see:
    http://www.arrl.org/news/well-known-contester-antenna-farmer-paul-bittner-w0aih-sk
OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to
the family and friends of W0AIH.

STANDARD TIME. Did you remember to change your clocks? Countries who
observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), which took place on Sunday, March
11th, are now expected to move their "local clocks" backward 1 hour on
Sunday, November 4th, from 2:00 AM local time to 1:00 AM. In 2018, Day-
light Saving Time (DST) will again go into effect on Sunday, March 10th,
at 2:00 AM local time. For the history and details about ST and DST, as
well as an interesting map of the world (showing the countries who observe
    DST), see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_time
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time
    http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/2018.html
    https://www.timeanddate.com/time/change/usa?year=2019
ADDED NOTE: Hopefully, all amateur radio operators know not to change
their GMT/UTC/ZULU clocks. However, since most operators usually set their
computers to local time, some may have to change their settings on "some"
ham radio software (ex. logging, propagation, DXTelnet, etc..) programs.

T8, PALAU. Nobuaki, JA0JHQ, will once again be active as T88PB from the
VIP-Guest Hotel in Koror City, Palau, between November 23-26th. Activity
will be on 160-6 meters on CW, but with a focus on the CQWW DX CW Contest
(November 24-25th). His equipment is an IC-7300 w/TL933 amp (about 500w)
into a 3 element Yagi and DP antennas. QSL via LoTW (preferred) or direct
to his home callsign. For more details and updates, see his Web page at:
