Julian, We have exchanged messages previously on WINLINK so I am enthusiastic about ANY developments that furthers mobility with Android devices.. I will be checking this out for sure! 73 Terry, va3ip
Thanks Terry. I recognize your callsign. If someone would've bet me a hardware modem would've enabled greater mobility, I would've lost that bet. Excellent update for sure. 73 Julian oh8stn
Julian, I know that both versions of "pico-APRS" , the 'self contained' miniature APRS Tracker/GPS (by WiMo) will also plug into a device running APRS Software and become a KISS TNC, the latest version (includes a 2m FM Voice TX/RX) can also connect via BT to your devices.. I have the original version, so when I get chance, I will check it out and see how flexible it is.. I like the idea of Winlink HF via a tiny TNC and so I will keep you updated of my own endeavours! 73 Terry, va3ip
Good video, Julian and as always, thanks for going to the time of making them for us. Man! Do I wish there was an Android solution for JS8call. though! 73 de Ray ..._ ._
You are very welcome. The mobile JS8Call solution is on lots of minds. If I could raise the money to do so, I'd fund the development resources myself. 73 Julian oh8stn
I'd like to learn more about APRS. I'm interested in getting a tracker for the car and the bike. For the car, preferably something that can start up when the car is started and shut down when the engine is turned off. It's been a long time since I've done anything with a soldering iron.
I am also setting this one up on my fat bike. The only issue foreseen, is managing the size of the antenna for 30m. Ground plane on a bike may become challenging, but it'll be a fun project. Thanks for watching commenting. 73 Julian oh8stn
Julian, As promised - I have been researching and it looks like there is an existing Android apk for a Software TNC called WoAD (pronounced same as road).. Here is the link: https://woad.sumusltd.com/faq I have to leave now but I will be trying this out myself in the next Day or so - also I am working on developing a tiny 4W HF tx/rx as an alternative /P Radio 73 Terry
Hi Terry. WoAD (Winlink on Android Device) was mentioned in my video. It is an excellent app with regular updates. The video demonstrates WoAD in a robust packet Winlink session using that app, z Samsung S22 Ultra, and TX-500 rig. About your /P radio, FB!!! , If you truly do this development, make sure it has an internal audio interface (eg like the digirig), along with an analog mic, speaker, ptt TRS or TRRS I/O. Nothing weird like the (TR)uSDX (which is nice but ignores digi-modes). Looking forward to hearing what you come up with. 73 Julian oh8stn
Why use a ground plane? Make the frame of the bike aag loop! I know there are other problems with this, but you'd be super cool, mag loop bicycle! --Shane WP2ASS / ex KD6VXI
Hi Shane. I simply assumed a quarter wave vertical and bike frame as cold side. Actually, a small magloop for 30M might be a brilliant idea. 73 Julian oh8stn
