    That the Elecraft is expensive isn't actually a virtue. The point of the other comment was that given that the rig *is* expensive, they should provide commensurate quality; the report that they don't is just cause for disdain.

    I'm not saying it pertains here, but in life I have often found people who justify all sorts of flaws in overpriced goods, often even citing the expensiveness in returned disdain, as if buying something better for less (>cough< IC-7300) were beneath dignity. My guess is that such folks might do that to resolve cognitive dissonance.

    Don't get me wrong, by all accounts the Elecraft is a fine rig, and for whatever reason I haven't met many who regret its purchase. But I shall almost certainly never buy one.
