Ironically, I just received an ARRL "ask for money" mailer today! :D

It can be worse that 35 dB. They don't mention allowed out of band emissions closer than 150% removed from center frequency. In this example we have pretty dirty 20 kHz wide HFT signal from WI2XXG recorded near their transmitter last September. Their occupied bandwidth ends 5 kHz away from 20 meter band. With proposed "35 dB" limit they can legally have -14 dB splatter 5 kHz away from their signal. The mask levels out at -50 dB only after splatter reaches 40 kHz into 20 meter band. If this signal was 50 KHz wide then -50 dB point wound be 100 KHz into 20m band.

    Just an FYI:

In reviewing the FCC Petition submittal, there are several declarations by the individuals behind the Petition (members of the "SMC"?).

These documents gave names, address, etc., but more importantly, the experimental license application information, INCLUDING their FCC experimental call-signs, is given.

    One example:
Beginning at page 92 (of 103) in the Petition (Appendix E) and in the following pages, you will find the call sign WH2XWU (among others). A search of the FFC experimental license database reveals that this transmitter was/is operating at a variety of frequencies (all without any ID requirements) at an ERP of:
    768kW (768,000 watts)! WOW!

That info can be found HERE: https://apps.fcc.gov/els/GetAtt.html?id=254320&x=.

I encourage you to reveiew the petition, particularly the Appendices (and particularly B-F). Look up the callsigns, look at the "experimental" powers they were running!

FCC database for experimental licenses is HERE: https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/els/reports/CallsignSearch.cfm

Anyone know why these videos by Jim - w6lg - all of a sudden went private?

He probably realized they were getting cross-posted all over the place and didn't like that so he changed the permissions.

Only the creator of YouTube videos can change the permissions to "Private" so Jim did it himself for some reason.

    you missed my point:

crypto currencies were successfully traded via other means for 15 years. HFT has been used for 30 years for front running many kinds of other instruments.

your qualifications do not affect any of the above.

personally, I agree with you, not interested in crypto currencies.

Yes but.. Hight Freq Trading (referring to speed, not to radio waves) has never been done using HF radio until the new experimental licenses that they want to make now permanent. As some have noted here HF (radio) can beat by those important microseconds of other conventual HFT.

It is especially more profitable regarding Crypto since there are zillions of small exchanges to take advantage of short-term pricing differences vs. stocks where different prices are far less likely. And we can hardly keep up with the Crypto exchanges that have gone bankrupt trying to get traders business.

yes, that's what everyone has noted and we have been discussing in these 3 or 4? threads.

that makes no sense because cryptocoin transactions require 100s of seconds to complete to the ledger. and the cost is exceedingly high, $ for bitcoin, $$ for Eth. compare vs Visa/MC, 5% on the merchant side, less than a second to verify and complete the transaction. Similar for ATM network. Close in for ACH.

not sure what you are getting at, might be better to stop here.

We are discussing two very different things. Yes, retail using coins as cash when you buy something is expensive, especially for the merchant, and slow.

But HFT relates to investing in coins etc by traders on exchanges. Trades take milliseconds to be executed and using HF allows those traders to beat other traders. It is more like stocks on major exchanges. Stocks also trade in milliseconds in what are called "tics" but on very highly regulated major exchanges for the most part. There is little regulation of the crypto exchanges.

Trading as an investment is different than the crypto technology that banks may use but that gets very complicated and not related to trading for a profit which is the current discussion.
