Tom Scott from YouTube describes the QRM on Marconi's first ever long-distance morse code transmission.
Dr Tom:Found your explanation of why we should never run out of possible "You Tube" possibilities quite interesting indeed!! Next time the bottom drops out of the bottom of the bands,we can always run to the "You Tube" the good part no Qrm es I may learn something to boot! Hi-Hi Vy 73, Greg-W2MYA,West Caldwell,N.J. USA
This pure BS. NOBODY was listening. Headphones were not in use until much later. The messages were printed on paper tape like a telegraph ticker tape. There was nothing to hear.
I learned years ago from a Tour Guide the first rule of tour guiding: You don't have to be correct or right -- but just keep talking.
Here are some headphones from the 1880s and 1890s http://coolmaterial.com/roundup/history-of-headphones/
Yet no mention about the multiple 2 way transmissions by Tesla from Colorado to New York and back 2-3 years before Marconi? Oh thats right people don't care about inter-US communications, they wanted to talk overseas (and still do today). Also no mention of Marconi illegally using Teslas "devices" and patents to accomplish his feats.
or what actually happened where the government handed it to Marconi so they could us them royalty free during WWI, and never "handed" them back to Tesla until WWII (after Teslas death) when they had to reverse it to prevent paying royalties to the Marconi estate. Typical gov't deciding things based on its own interest instead of that of the people who made this nation what it is (or at least used to be).
