This thread is a short course in why Inoue Denki Kabushikigaisha got changed to ICOM by the American distributors who then became ICOM East and ICOM West. :) I know I was there.

Actually Inoue was already using Inoue Communications Equipment Corporation as their international name by then.

Reminds me of the tale of when GM tried to sell the Chevy Nova in Brazil. Turns out that in portugese "Nova" means "No Go". Took them a while to explain the slow sales volume.

Remember the joke about the automobile named Datsun?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------

A fledgling Japanese automobile company asked a veteran German auto maker to suggest a name for its new car.

"We need a name no later than tomorrow," said the Japanese official.
"Dat soon?" replied the surprised German.

Here is the link to explanation.

    http://www.baofengradio.com/en/shownews.asp?id=28

The reason is because there are many counterfeit sellers on ebay selling these radios with no customer service, no warranty, no experience in these radios. When i buy my baofeng radios, i usually purchase from the same seller on ebay, which is reliable, ships fast, and if i have a question, it gets answered promptly. A lot of people have purchased one of these radios and are miserable with it because they had some sort of problem with it and couldn't contact their seller. If you read on this site in the link above, it will show you a list of ebay sellers that are not associated with Baofeng directly, rather buying these radios, and reselling them because they are a hot item.and shows you the sellers that are preferred.
