    nice defamations N3XP.

I see a county sheriff's deputy, a fire department lt...four state certified rescue specialists..hardly the whackers you describe. Unlike you who sit on your hill blowing smoke down on everyone, we actually serve our community not just rest on our laurels playing with our EF Johnsons.

And check your facts, KG4CIU has been licensed since 1999, I've been licensed since 1986- before you even knew what ham radio was N3XP. So there. Post your qualifications with references anytime Mr "I'm Classified". In the mean time, don't you have something better to do with your time than bash people trying to do something positive for their community?

Get off this delusion that emcomm is or should be "illegal". It's crap and and you know it. Plan and simple. You folks are under no mandate to participate, and these statements about firefighters equipped with radios and callsigns is preposterous. Like the IAFC and APCO don't have their hands full with projects that actually matter. Please give it a rest. It's simply not true.

You are truly living in an altered state of reality if you think the FCC Inc. is going to keep the amateur radio service alive just so you elitists can play radio when there are billions of dollars ready to be spent by commercial interests. And it isn't the cops and firefighters with the fat checkbooks. Get a clue, do some research and get in touch with reality while you're at it.

And Ms. Smith is not your savior, if you know anything about her background she isn't here to keep the amateur service the way it is. I'll give you a hint: the 800MHz rebanding scam pulled over on all of us. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Just keep it up so we can do away with any real public interest justification and you will have done your part to ensure your little "hobby" will become a pay to play service. Hope you got that Amex Black card ready...you'll need it.

    -All emcommers are whackers!!!

    -Emcommers are mentally disturbed people.

They live under the grand elusion that they and ham radio can save the world.

Take your meds then take a deep breath…the world will still turn and the sun will still rise without you.

    -No more EMCOM Tards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have enough idiots running around looking like rent-a-cops with flashing lights, badges and SWAT uniforms!!!

    -The Emcomm cry…

“Here we come to save the day!!!”

    But …in reality….is

“Here we come just to get in the way!!!”

same could be said about most HAMS in general, a bunch of social outcasts who think they are special because they spend thousands of dollars to talk on expensive radios, erect unsightly towers, and irritate their family and friends (if they have any) with their talk in Q-codes, phonetics, and other lingo.

all while the 9 year old across the street, shakes his head, pulls out his I-Phone 3G and says "big f-in deal. Get a real hobby"

so what is your point WZ9O? or do you have one? see we can all bash each other but it isn't doing a damn thing to preserve ham radio. But I see posts like yours it's clear you aren't interested. another self-serving, self-centered individual who doesn't get the full picture. enjoy your hobby while you can before you'll be reaching for your MyTouch to "chase DX" and paying per QSO to do it.

    Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding!!!

Battle of the X-Rays Part Deux!!!

    XP vs XTS!!!

PS. XTS, your ire at CIU's mistaken grant date should be directed at me, not XP. Apparently a quirk in the FCC database lists his/her grant date as 12-2008. Yours as 2007.

PPS. I'm an SAR volunteer and anti-emcomm now after hearing both sides of the debate.

PPPS. Perhaps, XTS, you should identify yourself as a professional emcommer as you did in the previous current-debate threads.

We are all hams...that is what this issue is about. My chosen professions stems from my childhood interest in HAM RADIO. Regardless, I don't have a problem with one choosing not do to em-comm. No other than I choose not to work DX, or ATV for that matter.

What I DO have an issue with is someone spreading rumors (not you, but others on this and the gazillion other threads on this subject) that em-comm is illegal when it is not. I also don't believe the ones we (as a ham community) need to be concerned about are our fellow SAR/PS people "invading" our service.

It's the one with checkbooks that are in the spectrum management business. And we've seen how the FCC has become Radio Spectrum Depot over the last 15 years bowing to whatever the industry wants. The commercial industry has a more powerful lobby than ever before, and with consumer demand for high bandwidth wireless (4G, LTE, 5G...who knows) those are who really have their sights on us. And they need not get licenses, just win spectrum auctions. And we're all history at that point, EM-COMM or not.

(FYI, regarding my ULS and CIU's, a quick check of the ADMIN tab will tell you how long someone has been licensed, their history, etc. Also, old call books are great resources. Check the Fall 1986 edition and I'm in there...yeah I've been around a while but certainly not an OF)

There are thousands of hams in hundreds of groups across the country participating in the ARRL Simulated Emergency Test this weekend and at other times throughout the next month or so. No big deal. For all of these hams, the ARRL guidance document and the FCC rules were clear enough, they made adjustments if necessary to ensure they were operating within the regulations, and then went ahead with their excercises.

But apparently this one guy at one station in one RACES group decided he needed to stir pot by fish around for an "official" FCC endorsement for his particular operation? Why? Ego?

As I've stated in the other debate thread, this altogether separate issue (big business buying our Amateur spectrum) belongs in own thread. I know I, and many others, would very much like to read any documentation of this not-altogether-unbelievable threat--and would likely rally against it. But, this undocumented and ethereal threat its tangential at best to the current "paid emcommer" debate, and boorish demogoguery at worst.

Actually, I did look up the Admin tabs. And neither CIU's nor your license references any earlier dates than 2008 and 2007, respectively. So, please just go easy on the wanton "idiots" name-calling, as I can only go by what the FCC has listed.

The choice to look the other way!

"He indicated that there would be no enforcement action taken if an independent party filed a complaint about the use HAM radios in this capacity."

I think all that has been discussed here is that the enforcement community is being instructed to look the other way. Even if the complaint was legitamate and had basis. It is truly alarming that a agency would pick and choose from it regulation.

A true testiment to our governing rules!!! What are they worth if I can choose which to obey.

Good point. The FCC can't just arbitrarily suspend the rules for individuals via informal email exchanges. There's a proceedure for that:

If that is your attitude, then why are you licensed?

This stuff and his photo comes right from his ham radio think tank webpage. If you're going to put this ecomm whacker stuff out there, trying to change the hobby you better expect to get called out on it.

    Newbee

OK, help me out here, I AM an admitted newbee. 3/27/09. I have read some of the stuff you are discussing but not sure of my take on it yet.

I work for a municipal electric company (read city owned). I realize that talking to other employees about our work, even if they are also licensed hams is a no-no. We have our own radios and repeaters, generators, battery backups etc for that.

If I have an HT in my car and use it to chew the fat during a break during an outage I'm fine. But if I use it to answer a question from a fellow HAM (not elec co employees) about the general nature of the outage or when we will be in his area or something I'm misusing the service? I'm salary so no outage OT, no extra pay for anything I do or don't do during the outage.

This is a serious question, I realize what opinions are like and that everyone has them, just trying to stay on the right side of the rule book.

Nor can they do that over the phone. Everything with the FCC is done in writing just like every other government agency.
