New VK pico balloon to go up

The PS-30 PICO party-type helium filled high altitude balloon is due to begin its flight at 8am (AEDT) on Saturday December 27 and will be tracked.

Some earlier PICOs launched by Andy Nguyen VK3YT travelled to Queensland, New Zealand, across the Pacific and Brazil. It could reach the lower jet stream between 6,500m to 8,500m in altitude.

Like others in the series, the solar powered strong foil party balloon is fitted with a payload that includes a GPS receiver, computer, 10mW transmitter, battery and antenna.

Andy VK3YT reports that WSPR and JT9 will be on 30m and 20m bands.

Full operational details and links can be found at Amateur Radio Victoria https://www.amateurradio.com.au/news/new-vk-pico-balloon-be-launched
