It is with great sadness I must announce the passing of George Mitchell K6ZE.
George had a great Ham career and is best known as the Morse Code Instructor for the Famous TUSKEGEE AIRMEN. George was 94 when he was rushed to the Hospital a few days ago and passed away on Thursday. George was a Past President of our QCWA Chapter 14. A few years back, George was flown to Washington where he was awarded the CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL for his work with the Tuskgee Airmen. Later after his service career, George was a Radio operator on Super tankers and worked for Scripps as Radio Op on their expeditions down to the Amazon. George's son Brian Stokes Mitchell is a TONY AWARD winning singer and actor for Broadway shows. In around 1994, I, as ARRL San Diego Section Manager awarded George a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT Award for his Tuskegee Morse code years, and all he has done for Ham Radio in the San Diego Community.
It is a very tragic loss to lose George, a close personal friend for many decades.
    73 George!
