Summits on the Air rules allow the activating station to operate off summit- 25 meters or 80 feet below the high point. This rule is useful for getting out of the wind, or when a summit is crowded with other hikers. More info on the SOTA rules here https://www.sota.org.uk/Joining-In/FAQs 73 de Tim N7KOM
So...Space Mountain at Walt Disney World is a "no-go?" DEFINATELY way too many "hikers!" Seriously though Tim! Great video and we'll be keeping my ears open for your next activation! 73 sir!
I love Smith Rock, rock climbed there many times but never did SOTA, now I need to make a SOTA/Rock climbing trip. Thanks for the video!
Nice video and I'm sure many appreciate the scrolling marque translation for non-CW types. I would have enjoyed seeing the full setup (battery, key, antenna, etc) as part of the full story. Thanks for posting.
I used to climb there often. It's still hard to go there and NOT bring climbing equipment. I'd really like to climb Monkey Face and do POTA from the top
My QTH is approx 8 miles NW of Smith Rock State Park. The video is a wonderful representation of the area, Sage Brush and Juniper Trees and lots of Peaks to climb and play radio on! (also some Great Trout fishing Rivers & Lakes close by) Well Done! 73 de KD7RTE Dave
Sorry I missed you! I'll be back in the area for the holdiays and hope to get out on some more hills.
Fantastic, I see the three sisters in the distance I think? Where is the trail head, looks like I could ride my 78 Honda CT90 up their, I am in no shape for a long hike. I enjoy your SOTA activations, nice and easy CW speed, un like contests. were you QRP 5 watts or less? Merry Christmas.
