QSO Today with Lanny Aldrich, K1LEC Lanny Aldrich, K1LEC, began his professional career as a third generation commercial dairy farmer in Vermont. Amateur radio was his hobby that he pursued at a steady pace to pursue DX, build operating skills, and contribute to the hobby by just being involved. Just his advice on antennas is a prize from our conversation. K1LEC is my QSO Today. Listen Here: https://www.qsotoday.com/podcasts/K1LEC
I used to deal with him when I was in the trucking business and hauled milk to his processing plant. Never knew he was in ham radio until after I got out of hauling milk, and then I met him at a hamfest and boy was I surprised to learn he was a ham also! Then we would chat on the local repeater almost daily and worked him on a few bands, of course he lived 60 miles away from me. I had not heard from him in years, and then I dropped him a qsl, and he sent one back and was thrilled to know about me again. oh ya..Lenny and I go back , way back in the mid 70s.
What are all those "screens". And what is that big compass on the desk? And what is that he's holding on to?
It's nice to hear @K1LEC Lanny is doing well and is still on the air! I bought a Kenwood 2600A HT package from him in back in the 80s. We met at his office at Idlenot Dairy and sealed the deal. I remember he's a good guy! The Kenwood 2600A package purchase was shared between a couple of friends including Bob @N1CIV. I think I still have the milk crate Lanny gave me to transport the equipment in.
Good to see (hear) you! Lanny helped Frank NC1I and I with a couple of EME DXpeditions to Vermont operating 70cm EME in the mid 1980s at the Barlow's Sugar House in Springfield VT - great times! 73 Bob W1QA
