    HamSCI and Youth on the Air Offer Talks at 2022 Dayton Hamvention

    HamSCI and Youth on the Air are collaborating to offer a series of booth talks and youth social time at Dayton Hamvention 2022.

    UNION, KY, May 12, 2022—HamSCI and Youth on the Air will offer a series of mini-forums at Dayton Hamvention 2022 in the Volta Building (Building 4) in booths 4303 and 4304. The talks will focus on scientific, educational, and youth related topics for amateur radio operators.

    The complete schedule of speakers is available at both the HamSCI (https://hamsci.org/hamvention2022) and Youth on the Air (https://youthontheair.org/hamvention2022) websites.

    Among the activities at the booth area, a social gathering for all youth will take place from 12 noon to 1 pm on both Friday and Saturday of Hamvention. All interested youth (age 25 and under) are invited for snacks, freebies, and eyeball QSOs.

    Friday’s booth talks include:

    11 am - First Observations of Large Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances Using Automated Amateur Radio Receiving Networks by Dr. Nathaniel Frissell, W2NAF from the University of Scranton

    1 pm - Propagation for Field Day 2022 by Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA

    2 pm – Contest Dashboard by Kyle Krieg, AAØZ

    3 pm - An Algorithm for Determining the Timing of Components within the HamSCI-WWV/WWVH Scientific Test Signal by Cuong Nguyen, KC3UAX from the University of Scranton


    Saturday’s booth talks include:

    10 am – The Yasme Foundation by H. Ward Silver, NØAX

    11 am - Plans for the Study the 2023 and 2024 Solar Eclipse Impacts on Radio and the Ionosphere by Dr. Nathaniel Frissell, W2NAF from the University of Scranton

    1 pm – The Grape Personal Space Weather Station: Past, Present, and Future by John Gibbons, N8OBJ from Case Western Reserve University

    2 pm – Youth on the Air in the Americas by the YOTA Team, followed by Youngsters on the Air by IARU Region 1 Youth Working Group Chair Philipp Springer, DK6SP

    HamSCI is also sponsoring a forum on Saturday, located in forum room 4, from 2:50 to 3:50 pm that will feature additional scientific related topics.

    YOTA is located in booth 4304 (next to ARISS), while HamSCI is located in booth 5008 (next to TAPR).
