Great to see the Redifon R408 again! I used a few of these while I was at sea in the late 60s early 70s. Seem to remember you had to be careful tuning to the end of the bands as the analogue film scale/drive cord was a bit delicate! Dave SV1RUX
the link below the picture wouldn't work for me i found this one https://www.itv.com/news/meridian/2018-10-19/daring-spies-who-broadcast-from-behind-enemy-lines/
Very interesting, thanks to Fred for the initial article and to you Tom for the updated link. It is amazing what you can find when you are at the right place at the right time. At 2:00 it sounded like he had a Dutch station coming in. Nice audio on that set.
As a boy, I was fascinated with stories of WWII agents in Europe, hiding in country shacks and sending off quick intel via CW, whilst keeping an eye out for the SS or Japanese partols. When I was a little boy, I had many family (Dad, uncles etc.) gone to war and I was hooked on such tails forever. It is no doubt part of what my ham radio hobby is about. (Happily, all family made it home although all saw at least some action.)
You mean it wasn't anything like "Kinch" from "Hogan's Heroes?" He use to get his radio parts from "the underground" - hand delivered to a nearby German beer garden.
