Ha! does that imply radio hams are inadequate ? Is the KB4QAA avatar proof of a possible astro-chimp radio ham?
Beats me. I'm not even sure that inadequate is the correct adjective. I don't know that much about theatre.
Do you know how many Russians are named Yuri? That's like working an American named "John" and saying, "I worked John Glenn!"
I know how many! Or at least, I know how to figure it out real simple. Take the male population of Russia, subtract the number of Borises, then subtract the number of Sergeys, and there ya go.
Well if the folks that sent a chimp into space (Russia) had their way i bet they gave him an honorary HAM radio to play with and buried him with full military honors when his air ran out. I wonder how many Rock and Rollers were HAMs, other than Heil.
The name Yuri is of Russian origin, and is used in more than one countries and different languages of the world, Russian speaking countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan...). I think the very popular Russian names is Alexander and Sergey.
He did have a callsign but it was only used for the trip into space is was KEDR. http://www.cqdx.ru/ham/ham_radio/1966-very-rare-shot/ Bruce N7XGR
An interesting commemorative production, thanks for the link Vlad. The Radio Moscow narration, in English, states comms were "shortwave" on frequencies of 9.019, 20.006 and 143.625 mcs. I imagine the former was a voice link, the latter two "telemetrics" (sic) and "television". The recorded voices sound a bit like SSB or other AM modulation (?) No FM hiss or squelch tail, a bit of fast flutter (could be the analog recording process too). 73 de John WØPV PS - this is a good dramatization too; I like the re-entry ejection!
