Zero-ohm Resistors

    When you do find the -10 ohmmers, just put 10 in series.

    Yes, I do. They're nonlinear. An op-amp negative resistor is a whole lot more linear than a tunnel diode.

    But they don't cause a mushroom cloud, at least, as far as we know?

    Here's a couple of tunnel diodes - the stoplights.

    We've got a few bridge diodes, too.

    BINGO !!!!

    I have then in surface mount packages and that is exactly their purpose. ( jumpers )

    Makes for a nice clean board design.

    Also I believe that Motorola uses them as "fuses" in their Maxrac Radios, but not in a surface mount package.

    They look like a regular resistor except they are colored/marked differently.

    If you get a Maxtrac that will not power on unless you apply 12 VDC to the " ignition sense " line, that zero ohm resistor is blown. ( in most cases )

    0 ohm = path to least resistance

    What would be the tolerance range for a zero-Ohm resistor?

    That's a pretty tight tolerance.

    I would buy +- 10%. (Let's see how many get that one).

    I'm feeling very liberal today--I say we should allow plus or minus 100 percent. What could it hurt?

    Now for something really exciting...

    Referring to the discussion above, the value of R is given; assume an unknown value of I through the resistor; let us say you have a volt meter of infinite input impedance and wires in the ideal state. You measure the voltage drop across the resistor. What is the power dissipated in the resistor? Show your arithmetic, including the "law" used, and each step of the calculations. Or, state the enigma.
