Hello folks. I recently came into possession of a Zenith Trans-Oceanic G500 with the manual. The person (Rather old lady) I got it from told me it works just fine. I'd like to sell it, but I'm not sure what a fair asking price would be. I've done some research on the internet and it appears this model was only made for 18 months and only 88K units were produced. Beyond that, I don't know much about old radios. Looks to be in real nice shape and I can provide photos in the next couple days.

Any info. or opinions would be much appreciated.

At ham fests in upper midwest, either black case or brown case go in the $75 to 125 range..

that is the old big tube type.. I have a transistorized version.. I am not sure what a "500" is.

Before you 'flip' that radio, you might want to play with it a bit. The old tube version of that radio was really a great shortwave receiver. We'd take one with us when we went camping back when I was a kid. We could listen to shortwave broadcasts in the daytime, and AM broadcasting at night. From out in the boonies, both of those things were a lot of fun.

I have one and they are pretty common actually. Usually priced in the 100-$200 range.

    Hello Radio Boys

    the G500 is not rare
you can always find one or two for sale on epay

had one as 10 year old kid SWL
    simply loved that radio

    in very good condition
i would not pay more than
150 bucks and thats pushing it

    some epay sellers are asking
    the moon and stars
    for Zenith Transoceanic receivers

its a FB AM BCB / short wave broadcast receiver

    but note
    unlike other Transoceanic receivers
    the G500
does not have general coverage or any ham bands
the H500 and 600 series have two general coverage bands
that cover 80 and 40 meters

been thinking of taking a H600 building a BFO
and rock crusher ten watt glow bug transmitter
to fit in the battery compartment

oh boy a Zenith Transoceanic 40/80 meter CW rig

going to root around the basement
have a few Transoceanic kicking around here someplace

    yours truly

I have the H500 and considered selling it at one point and time. Glad I didn't. It is not even worth that much. More fun to keep and enjoy anyway. My suggestion, keep it, you will be glad you did.
