Statements like this really tarnish your cool reputation, Iceman.

    How much wire to add
Ideally ~65' of wire would be added to one end of the 40 meter dipole to make it a resonant OCF 80 meter dipole. If that's too long to fit I'd add 35' to make it a 100' OCF dipole.

    Unbalance
What is the antenna tuner model number? Some tuners have CM chokes on the output and others have voltage baluns. The latter drive one side of the balanced output directly off the tuner LC components with other balanced output connected to a transformer that flips the polarity. You might have less RF-in-the-shack issues with a CM choke between the ladder line and the tuner.

    EYJ,
Make the vertical a tilt over so you can add wire to both sides of the antenna. Adding wire to one side will give you an Off Center Fed antenna but will result in unbalanced feed line and beaucoup RFI. Another option might be to end load both parts of the antenna so it will load up on 80M.
