What is your “go to” or everyday day HT? For me it depends on digital mode I want to play on. It’s either the Anytone 878 or Yaesu FT-70DR....sometimes both if I’m on the road.
Yaesu VX-7r because it does everything, is compact, and durable. However, because the front end is so open, if I'm going to be in a challenging location and need better 2m performance (mainly receive performance), I use my Icom IC-V8. Chris
My primary HT remains the (ICOM) ID-51A+; I also have a (Yaesu) FT-3DR, which is a really good radio, but most of my use for that is through a hotspot (or WIRES-X, if I choose to connect it to my laptop PC)... no YSF repeaters near me. Granted, I am not within HT range of the nearest D-STAR repeater, but that mode is far more versatile. I understand why a replacement for the '51A (Plus 2) has been slow to be developed and released... the 51-series just plain works well.
Kenwood TH-72A for the satellites. Other than that I don't use an HT that often. When I do, I like my Yaesu FT-65.
Yaesu FT-530 with a MH-29 A2B speaker-mic w/ remote display. It's been working great for almost 30 years; no need to change now. Regards, -Bruce
Two actually. Alinco DJ-G7 and DJ-G29 gives me 2m, 70cm, 1.25m, 33 and 23 cm. If a smaller foot print is needed then the TH-F6. If in an area with activity on 6m VX-7. In a hazardous environment where there is a chance of loss or damage then everybody's favorite a UV5R. If it goes overboard oh well.
I've never been the biggest fan of HTs, frankly, and have never developed a big "collection"...I do have a nice little ID-51a I use for both analog and D-Star. I don't use it much, but it does come in handy on occasion.
