IDE is software development tool, SCSI is hardware spec, right?
Integrated Drive Electronics--the step between MFM/RLL drives where the main components were on an expansion card and SATA. The motherboard had a minimal interface and the hard drive contained the firmware and other electronics needed for the drive to function.
Integrated Development Environment.
So the software geeks did not synchronize with hardware geeks.
Just think of them as overloaded acronyms.
I do not miss those PITA drives, But I still have a few.
Not me. I threw all of that stuff out years ago. I still have one system with an IDE drive.
