When building a yagi antenna, is the distance between elements measured from the center to center or outer edge to the outer edge of the elements?

I've always heard center to center unless otherwise noted in somebody's plans....

Between bolt holes down the boom.

I've always used center to center. I use a center punch to mark the holes.

The measurement should mark the center of the element. But, all of the antennas that I have worked with, specify all elements from the center of the reflector element (cumulative spacing). That way you can just lay a measuring tape along the boom and mark where each element belongs. If you have a lot of elements, just measuring center to center can cause placement errors. Although, they probably wouldn't be noticed much.
