    Hey gents...

Looking for the size of the mounting screws for the MMB-36 (FT-8800R) and MMB-82 (FT-857D)? Specifically the screws for attaching the bracket to the radio. Unfortunately the boxes got lost in a recent move.

    Are they the usual 4mm x 8mm?

    Thanks in advance!

If memory serves, they're 3mm x 8mm, and do not use anything longer! The holes are bored through, and using a overly long screw can cause damage to the circuit boards.

Don't they have the screw size printed or stamped on the body of the radio next the the screw holes?

Some do, some don't. Most of the information with regard to parts, is included in the repair manual. Unfortunately, few of todays amateurs buy one, and for good reason I suspect.

    Matthew,
For the FT-857 (+D) the screws should be M4 x 6mm. Unfortunately, neither the Operating Manual nor the Technical Supplement for the FT-8800R show the size of its required screws.

As KD2AZ pointed out, many radios have the required screw size shown on a decal on the side of the radio. Unfortunately, these are easily scraped off while installing/removing the radio to/from its bracket.

Here's the capture of the MMB-82 installation page from the FT-857 Operating Manual:

And this is for the FT-8800R

    Cheers,
