This is very much what I'm looking for.

As I said earlier, waiting for actual, real reviews, and inevitable price drops back to current models' numbers.

I agree with that , I have a few friends that have got their tickets, they don't care to use the repeaters and insist on using simplex ( fine by me BUT ) so there's quite a lot of noisy QSO's in my area. my wife doesn't want any of my 2 meter Yagi antennas put up ( she doesn't complain about my HF wires - so I don't press the issue) so a transceiver with this RX preamp might be good for me. However SSB would be fun to do again , then again, I'd need to do an "egg beater " antenna .

If they still do not implement memory banks nor temporary scan block like they left out of their high end FTM-500 that are lacking. The Icom IC -2730a does it for less. I am aYaeau fan but they are getting lazy in updating the firmware of existing radios whether HF or VHF/UHF radios. Sucks that one spends so much money to get ignored.

I did not know they even did this at all? How does one find out what version one's radio is on, and if that is the most current?
P.S. I am interested particularly in the FT-2800M, and eventually the FT-2900 or FT-2980 (all predecessors in the line before the new one).

why didnt they put fustion in the 150 at least? Fusion is way better and more efficent. alot of repeaters use it and it is good for simplex as well

Probably because they already offer dual band mobiles with System Fusion, and not everyone wants it. Some folks just want an analog rig and would rather not pay for extra features they won't use.

In my region its the same. Operators are able to, but they dont want to use C4FM. Their clubs politics drive them mostly into DMR and this together with a closed repeater circle controlled with the timeslots. Selfmade cage, closed society.

As an individual I searched succesfully my own way. Its much more quiet and sometimes frustrating. This means not to join their party.

Me too. Such a shame, Have not bought any Y radios since they stopped putting in memory banks. Oh well, ICOM got my business for a 5100 and a 2730 (memory banks) as I don't care about fusion or dstar.

You didn't fix anything. You just edited my post (misquoted me) to reflect your opinion. Write what you think don't don't attach your opinion to others' posts.

Excitng? Not... I wish ICOM would make an 100 watt IC 705 Mobile with an detachable face. Now that would be something..
