Don't worry--it's all good. Even when I run mine at 5 watts, it gets warm and the fan kicks on.
You'll extend life I'm sure if you run it at less... try 20-25-50-75 watts and see the temp at those levels...
Is your POWER SUPPLY beefy enough to run your radio?

Hi Bill...the power supply is rated 25a continuous and 30 max...it a heavy linear jobby...and is always very cool.

The radio draws 22amps on voice 100w SSB.

Had a rag chew tonight...and I had left the top cover screws out so I could lift the lid when I finished my QSO and point my infrared thermometer around.

The PAs were quite cool...as were most components on the top side of the radio...but the heat seems to be concentrated in the area behind the front panel on its right side where the alloy heat sink is most bulky...without taking that panel off I cant see what would be getting warm behind it.

It seems all 450s are like this...I would like to know where the heat is coming from though.

So is there any component behind the front panel the gets quite warm....I can only think of the CPU,
