Hopefully that smaller tuning step is in the firmware of the model you receive.

I don't know how quickly the CHIRP group will get around to adding full support for these Wouxun radios. It seems like support comes faster if they receive a radio that can be used in their testing. I haven't seen a separate Wouxun software package for the KG-UV9D Plus, but one may exist somewhere.

    Alle wouxun software& manuals including 8D, 8D plus, 9D, 9Dplus are on: www.wouxun.com/resource.aspx

For the new menu functions see: KG-UV9D(Plus) Folding Instruction

I have an FTDI programming cable ( http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_GettingStarted.php ) which might do the job

The (used) Elk antenna arrived yesterday; I will try to replace the PL-259 connector with N or SMA
The Wouxun 9D+was shipped three days ago from China... usually it requires 6 weeks to arrive.

    73, have fun

Thanks for pointing that out. I had not looked at that page in a while. Nice to see Wouxun put up the files for the UV9D Plus.

That programming cable should be fine. I have one of those for my Wouxun and Baofeng radios, and it works with CHIRP and the Wouxun software for my UV8D and UV9D. The Elk is a great antenna for satellite work. When you get the radio and start working with it, please come back here and report on that radio. Especially if you work AO-85 (or SO-50) with it.

I read that, but you didn't read and comprehend what I wrote. Note the highlighted portion above in your quote. I didn't say something like "I haven't seen a separate Wouxun or third-party software packages ... " or "I haven't seen any software packages ... " in my earlier post. I hadn't visited the Wouxun download page in a while, but after seeing PA2EM's message I went there and saw the files as he mentioned. With the Wouxun programming software and a suitable programming cable, that saves having to spend $50 for the software/cable combination you mentioned.

If you mention RT Systems one more time in this thread, will you get a set of steak knives? :)

The original '76 version I remember seeing on TV a long time ago, or something newer?

I believe the term these days is "vintage." :)

The KG-UV9D plus already arrived yesterday! And yes it has 2.5Khz step.
In the last two weeks my old KG-UVD1P did receive AO85 using the Elk antenna.
I was not yet able to get through using simplex transmit with the many stations here.
The KG-UVD1P was programmed in this way:

    SO50-on 436.815.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 74.4
    SO50-1 436.815.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    SO50-2 436.810.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    SO50-3 436.805.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    SO50-4 436.800.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    SO50-5 436.795.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    SO50-6 436.790.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    SO50-7 436.785.000 split 145.850.000 Tone 67.0
    AO85-1 145.980.000 split 435.160.000 Tone 67.0
    AO85-2 145.980.000 split 435.165.000 Tone 67.0
    AO85-3 145.980.000 split 435.170.000 Tone 67.0
    AO85-4 145.975.000 split 435.175.000 Tone 67.0
    AO85-5 145.975.000 split 435.180.000 Tone 67.0
    ISS-Packet Smplx 145.825.000
    ISS-Voice & SSTV 145.800.000 split 145.200.000 (this is for region 1 EU)

    (so far only tried AO85)

What is a good programming table for the KG-UV9D using the 2.5Khz step?

No (E) indication on the box or on the front. 2.5 khz works and so far it keeps on displaying english text
